MEET MATT KEATING
Eugene City Councilor Matt Keating serves as Council President, liaison to the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency, and past-Chair of the Human Services Commission.
Outside of Council, Matt is a member of the KLCC Public Radio Foundation Board of Directors, and an emeritus member of the Eugene Public Library Foundation Board. Prior to his election to Council in 2020, Matt served as a twice-elected Board Member on the Lane Community College Board of Directors (2013-2021).
Matt is also an active member of the national, state, and local Democratic Party:
- One of three persons representing Oregon Democrats as a Democratic National Committee Member
- Board of Directors, Democratic Municipal Officials
- Officer/Administration Committee Member, Democratic Party of Oregon
- Precinct Committee Person (HD-12) and endorsed exclusively by the Democratic Party of Lane County
As South Eugene’s City Councilor, Matt is proud to have rescued funding for Greenhill Humane Society, preventing severe cuts to the well-being of animals most in need.

On the heels of the Holiday Farm fire, Matt led the charge to ban fireworks, reducing the risk of wildfires in the south hills. Matt also helped prevent the closure of a local fire station. As such, Matt is proudly endorsed by first responders, the Lane Professional Firefighters: Local 851.
In 2023 Matt advanced a camping prohibition within 1000 ft. of our schools and library, ensuring our kids and seniors safe access to these vital education facilities. Simultaneously, Matt stabilized funding for Community Supported Shelters, connecting our unhoused population with critical housing and support services.

Serving two consecutive terms as a Lane Community College Board of Education Member (2013-present), Matt Keating is a strong proponent for:

• An equitable clean-energy future for our kids & grandkids;
• A safe and secure Eugene;
• Implementing an Envision Eugene Climate Plan for responsible, sustainable growth
But Matt can't tackle Eugene’s 21st century problems alone.
As we speak, the City of Eugene is in the midst of an affordable housing crunch - an unaffordable housing crisis. In addition, we see rampant homelessness, harsh addiction permeating our streets, and an alarming disinvestment in mental health services from our state.
Moreover, the climate crisis is upon us. Clean air, clean water, and clean energy jobs are critical to our livelihood and our planet's future.
As he has accomplished with his work at MoveOn.org, Democracy for America, Cumulus Media, and the Democratic Party of Oregon, Matt will build broad coalitions of support from local stakeholders, engage a diverse array of community groups and bring new neighbors — new voices — into the process to promote South Eugene values and our shared common interests.
