ISSUES

Living-Wage Jobs & Affordable Housing

Council-approved incentives to build housing and repair roadways should include an affordable housing component for residential projects, a solar/green energy component, and — above all — a robust community benefits agreement. Preventing the exploitation of workers while promoting local, living-wage jobs are key to our community’s success. As Eugene City Councilor, Matt will promote partnership with our building and construction trades on public projects that will create jobs, train journeymen, and build new affordable housing.

Fund the Bold Envision Eugene Climate Plan

Matt will advocate for reducing our carbon footprint, preserving our urban growth boundary, and building up — not out — to protect the livability of Eugene’s unique neighborhoods. Bike paths, parks, and preserving our forests and waterways for future generations are vital to a healthy community. Matt is a tireless advocate for the Eugene City Council and Lane County Commissioners to revisit antiquated land-use law to allow for mixed commercial and residential zoning, especially along existing transportation corridors like West 11th, River Road, and Coburg Road. Revisiting land-use law will allow for an infusion of green-energy economic activity and built-to-scale affordable housing atop strip malls and big-box stores along EmX lines and existing transportation corridors.

Address Addiction & the Mental Health Crisis in our Community

Matt will prioritize invaluable mobile mental-health intervention programs like Crisis Assistance Helping Out In the Streets (CAHOOTS). “The more we can invest in programs like CAHOOTS,” Matt remarks, “The better for our un-housed population, folks suffering from mental health crises, and our entire Eugene community.” Further, Matt promotes public/private/nonprofit partnerships so our business community, city government, and nonprofit organizations may better work together. This collaboration will combine vital resources and local on-the-ground expertise to ensure the City of Eugene moves forward with implementing actionable solutions to alleviate homelessness, provide a safety net for families most in need, curb addiction, and promote access to banking and employment.
